This is a boarded up terrace almost certainly destined for demolition. I used to live in a house like this but I painted the door green and put white lace curtains up at the windows. There were rows and rows of these red brick houses, all attached together. It is typical north of England working class housing of the turn of the century. Some had a very small yard at the back; Some just had a shared, communal area.

The sun comes up over Waterloo Road. The building on the left benefitting from the sun's rays is currently being used as the police station. The cars are still sleeping.

The Old Clinic: early morning November (re-worked)

This painting was originally done in 2007 and I re-worked it in 2009. I enjoy re-working things especially when so much time has elapsed and you feel "fresh again" with that particular work. This old health clinic was boarded up soon after I did the first version and a new clinic was opened in town. The area to the left with the trees was where Stalybridge town hall stood. That was also demolished some years ago, save for the facade which still stands but is not in the picture. I like the simple, almost abstract shapes this scene makes.

Flock Developments is on Clarence Street. It seems it was once "Clarence Street Mill" and must have been a cotton mill engaged in carding and spinning. Does anybody know any more about it?

This was built in 1907 exactly one hundred years ago. Next time I go into Stalybridge center I will find out the name of the street. I didn't make a note of it.
